Biographical Information

Steven graduated with a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2004. Since January of 2006 (with more than 25 years in higher education—serving in various roles—and around 3 months in community mental health), Steven comes to Perspectives of Troy with a unique background in college and community mental health.

Steven’s background (education as well as practice orientation) is solution-focused, brief, and eclectic. As your professional counselor, Steven’s goal will be to provide you a safe, supportive, and confidential session where you may feel free to reflect on your life (including thoughts, feelings, and behaviors); the choices you make in meeting your needs and goals; and any concerns you may have.

While you will need to do most of the talking in the sessions, Steven will facilitate this process by suggesting in-session and out-of-session exercises, as well as providing occasional educational information to help you become more acclimated to your sessions.

Either way, counseling will challenge and encourage you to assume greater self-awareness and responsibility for your life choices and, at times, you may feel it uncomfortable and risky to share personal information, and there may be consequential changes in your home, work, and social life. There are also no guarantees in counseling. However, it is also Steven’s goal to provide you the best sessions he can to facilitate your growth potential so that you may hopefully expect positive and rewarding changes due to self-disclosure.
