Bullying Treatment Options For Children And Adults

by | Oct 6, 2020 | All

Bullying Treatment Options For Children And AdultsBullying victims often push their anguish aside in an effort to get back to normal life. This may provide a temporary source of relief, but it is not a long-term solution. Luckily, there are bullying treatment options available to help victims conquer their emotional turmoil and regain their confidence and self-esteem. Whether you are the parent of a bullying victim or you are the victim yourself, you can take advantage of the treatment options listed below.

Counseling And Therapy

Most abuse victims benefit from discussing their experiences with a professional counselor. Through bullying counseling, a victim can identify the most troubling memories from the abuse and learn new ways to move on from the trauma. Several of the counselors at Perspectives Of Troy specialize in bullying therapy, and they work with patients every day to boost their confidence and move past their negative experiences. Intervention

In school-age children, bullying is often eradicated by an intervention, either from a person of authority or a peer. A study from 2001 showed that 57% of bullying situations stopped after a peer intervened on behalf of a victim. An intervention may take place between two parents, where the victim’s parent discusses his child’s feelings and experiences with the bully’s parent. The bully’s parents may not be aware of the situation until the intervention.

Note that interventions are best held with a mediator or support group in place, to minimize the chances of a fight breaking out.

Relocation And Removal

Relentless bullying that is neglected for years may not be reversed with a simple intervention. In some cases, you may have to completely relocate to get away from the problem. This is especially true for adults who experience bullying at work. If your boss or human resources department is not responding correctly to your bullying, you may need to find another work environment. If your child no longer wants to go to school even after the bullying has subsided, you may need to transfer him to another learning institution.

Treatments For Long-Term Side Effects Of Bullying

A victim of bullying may experience long-term side effects from trauma, such as depressionanxietyeating disorders, and self-harm. These conditions may require additional counseling or medical treatment to eliminate. Working with a therapist is the first step in the journey to bullying recovery. If you or someone you know needs help to sort through emotions after bullying, contact Perspectives Of Troy to schedule an appointment with one of our licensed counselors.
