How To Stop Suicidal Thoughts: Part 2 | Depression Therapy In MichiganContinued from Part 1

Work With A Depression Therapist

As cliché, as it sounds, working with a therapist, can and will improve your depression symptoms. Therapists and counselors are trained to understand people’s thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Your therapist can help you control suicidal thoughts and tackle them at the root. Not only will you have a stronger support system, but you will also have an effective way to fight negative thoughts head first. The result: a happier, healthier you.

Perspectives Of Troy Counseling Centers in Michigan offers a wide range of depression therapy programs. Contact us to schedule a confidential appointment, and we will set you up with a compassionate therapist near you.

Spend Time With Friends And Family Members

Spending time with your loved ones re-emphasizes your value and self-worth. You are an amazing person with a lot of people who care about you. Surround yourself with them and feel the love they have to give. At the same time, you should distance yourself from people who make you feel worse about yourself or your situation. Having a small circle of positive people is better than a large circle of negativity.

Avoid Depression Triggers

When you start slipping into suicidal thoughts, avoid doing things that make your symptoms worse. Listening to sad music, watching sad movies, looking through old photos or re-reading certain letters may intensify your depression. You can learn healthy ways to handle these triggers over time, but a suicidal moment is not the appropriate time. Find something to do to lift your spirits, like watching a fun movie or hanging out with your family.

Once you get through a tough time, you can talk to your therapist about the situation and how to handle a similar one in the future.

Learn From Your Past Thoughts

Suicidal thoughts should be avoided as much as possible. If they happen though, try to learn from them. What triggered that cycle of emotions? What did you do to make them better or worse? What could you do to prevent the same situation in the future? Again, your therapist can help you through this process so you can recover from depression successfully.

If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, contact Perspectives Of Troy Counseling Centers to schedule an appointment with a depression therapist in Michigan. You can also contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
